Clockwork has always been crafty with his sound design. From Mad Hatter horns, to John Hughes synths, to Texas Chainsaw jaw harps – he’s put a twist on almost everything. So what could he have wound up this time?
“Champion” is more bouncy electro house, and similar to his previous singles like “Blitz”, the track uses a vocal shoutout to cue the audience to lose their marbles. Of course the track doesn’t need a cue – Clockwork’s craftsmanship is so solid that it’s impervious to any kind of apathy whatsoever. The only thing that’s missing here is the twist. The new sound. The thing that makes the Clockwork identity so ironic.
But even if “Champion” doesn’t quite live up to its billing, it’s still a perfectly-tuned banger. And definitely something to set your Miami Music Week in motion.
